Jan 11: Team 2

Here's a picture of my new colleagues in Team 2 at Pythian. It might help you put faces to names that you're familiar with from conference reports, blogs and the Oracle-L mailing list.

Left-Right - Babette Turner-Underwood; Mark Brinsmead; Julien Lamarche; Moi ;-)

Mark Billette is working off-site today.

Mark is the Team Lead which is not why he looks less than pleased to have his photo taken. I think it's just that, like me, he isn't keen on having his photo taken! I wouldn't normally inflict a photo-shoot on colleagues but, as they've taken such good care of me so far ...

Oh, and this is Babette doing what she's known best for.

She's spared me since I started working here, though - that's a staged hug. Always be wary of things that aren't as they might seem. Oh, and this is me and the boss, Paul Vallee, with Darrin Leboeuf appearing unexpectedly in the background (I had no idea he was there). I was going to skip that one because I was pushed into having it taken and blinked, but might as well suck up whilst I have the opportunity ;-)

(Oh, by the way, Paul and Mark - I'm booking this to internal team building!)

Clearly your boss is aged about 18. How on earth did he get so smart so quickly? I had thought tanel poder was a one off. Now I'm thinking that I'm just old and stupid.

What are those things with the glass and red doors? Skinner boxes?

I don't have the first idea what a Skinner box is, so I couldn't say!

You don't have to work with him! In fairness, Paul isn't quite as young as he looks, but considering that Pythian has been running for 9 years (I think), that should give you an indication of just how successful he's been ...

This huggy-stuff is all very well, but are you doing any work over there or WHAT, Doug?!

#14 - joel garry 2007-01-13 00:14 - (Reply)

Gee I thought everyone with a degree knew about Skinner Boxes. Oh well.

They probably do, but when commenting on the blog of someone who doesn't have a degree, it probably justifies some additional explanation ;-)

You don't know the half of it! It might look very cosy but people work.

We do some experiments on our boss in one of those Skinner Boxes.
One box is really special - there's a web cam so that customers can enjoy the show as well.
