Sep 3: UKOUG Agenda Online

I noticed that the agenda for this year's conference is online.

I was very pleased to have two abstracts accepted but didn't mention it before now because there was a possibility that I might replace one of the presentations with an alternative. In the end, I'll be going with the two original abstracts I mentioned here.

As usual, I'm looking forward to hearing some good presentations and meeting up with old friends. Take a look and see what you think. Remember - if you or your organisation is a member of the UKOUG, conference admission is free.

Have mercy!

I am glaf that my presentation is in "Server Technology" this year but...

Jonathan on the left and Tom on the right on the agenda during my presentation.

It is that UKOUG doesn't allow any commercial activities during presentations, otherwise I would bribe people, as long as my pocket money would allow it,

If you find my room empty, then you will able to find me attending Jonathan's presentation (Tom's is on my agenda for OOW).

Is there "a hint" Jonathan to make people move to the middle...

8-)

I've heard that free beer for the audience can do wonders ...

Shhhh! Marco wasn't at Hotsos that year - I was keeping it as *my* trick ;-)

What do you think Kurt, could I beat Doug, with a free "Grolsch" Cheersch starterskit for every attendee?

;-)

Well it's all about the logistics ... it's much easier buying a domestic beer overthere...

oh - this marketing trick also works quite well with chocolates.

this marketing trick also works quite well with chocolates.

Perhaps, but does he have time to arrange hand-made chocolates with a 'Marco' logo and, even if he does, can he rely on good friends to take good care of them?

Who needs a friend if you have money ?!

On Kurt's suggestion, I already am trying to close the deal with the UKOUG regarding extra promotional effort on my behalf.

The following is in preparation to be put on the main UKOUG site.

Have a go: doug.gralike.com

Marco,

There's the HASH hint, that could make the audiences use a random scattering algorithm to go to the presentations.

There's the MERGE hint, that might might the three audiences merge into a single complex audience

There's the NLJ_PREFETCH hint, which could allow you to go and get the audience before they have a chance to go anywhere else.

There's the FULL hint, to make sure your hall is full.

There's the NO_MONITORING hint, so that if you do get a small audience you don't have to let anyone know.

There's the ORDERED hint, to make the audience go where you tell them.

There's the STAR_TRANSFORMATION that you could apply to yourself, then the audience would really, really, want to see you

There's the REWRITE hint you could use to change the agenda.

The CARDINALITY hint - to specify the size of your audience (whatever the audience thinks it ought to be)

You could try MATERIALIZE to make an audience come into existence

There's the SET_TO_JOIN hint, which would tell the audience which set to join.

Regards
Jonathan Lewis

Doug,

One important correction - if your organisation is a member, the conference is free for one set of admissions days.

(I nearly said "for the first attendee" - but this year you can share that attendee's "ration" of days across as many people as you like, and be selective about which days you attend. So you can even allow several people to attend the same day under your 'one attendee' entitlement.)

It's funny you should mention that because I was only reminded of it yesterday or the day before. Someone at my current client site pointed out they will be using this option to send two different people over the course of the week. It's a terrific idea in tight times for business when it's hard to get a full week off work or pay for extra attendees.
