Nov 23: A Sad Announcement

The corrupt underbelly of celebrity has permeated the comfy seat. Ever since I started this blog, the bickering and sniping has increased. At first I thought it was just the growing pains of young cuddly toys but things have taken a turn for the worse recently with naked campaigning for greater exposure and factions forming around certain barrack-room lawyers. The breaking point was reached when I returned from UKOUG 2006. They realised that they were becoming minor celebrities and I was issued with a demand for compensation for their global media rights. I've reminded them who puts a roof over their head and for that they should be grateful.

The Housemate of the Month series will continue for the time being, with the entire group sharing a single monthly fee for the privilege of using said Housemate's likeness in my side-bar.

The fee for this will be

1) One Cornetto ice cream (of their chosen flavour) per month for each Housemate.

2) Guaranteed viewing of Antiques Roadshow, The X Factor (including results) and Parkinson each week. (If Bill wants to see The Ashes, he's free to watch it while Madeleine and I are in bed at night)

3) One large bag of Kettle Chips with assorted dips for consumption whilst watching TV each Saturday evening. (Crumbs are their own responsibility.)

That will be the only mention of them on this blog from now on. I will be sticking to Oracle matters, both technical and industry/user group news and conference reports.

Poor old Alex and Pierre don't know what's hit them, but I'm not for turning. I implore you not to leap to the defence of them when their public personas are so out of step with their private behaviour. What next, PR agents?

Hm... do you think they might start they own blogs then?

Don't be surprised if they do - they've been making angry noises to that end, but I certainly won't be encouraging them :-(

I think you've got this the wrong way round. You claim that it is you that has made them celebrities, while some would say it is they that have made your career!

Do you really think you would have been invited to join the Oak Table without their support? I'm sure they've been on the phone day and night, biggin' you up to the Oak Table boys, indirectly enhancing their own celebrity.

Remember:

- Don't bite that hand that feeds you.
- Behind every good man is a good stuffed animal.
- He who lives by the cuddly toy, dies by the cuddly toy!

:-)

Cheers

Tim...

We have unanimously decided that are demands were not too great and have decided to start our own blog: http://cuddlytoysrus.blogspot.com/

C'mon the cuddly toys!

I would just like to dissociate myself completely from this comment. I can't control them :-(

Well, it's *definitely* nothing to do with me. I wouldn't worry too much if I were you - I don't think they have the determination to stick at it.

That new Housemate of the Month should teach them a lesson.

Normal service will be resumed on 1st December.

We're rather offended by your recent decision and would like to completely disassociate us from your harsh treatment of cuddly toys. There's far too many good blogs about PostgreSQL anyway, so we're going underground to work on something new and very different.

Good PostgreSQL blogs worth checking out:

The CTF (Cuddly Toys Front) will not tolerate this behaviour - we'll be back!

Dear landlord,

You can take away our TV rights and small demand of Kettle Chips, but you'll never take our fame and status!

Yours,

Derek Junior

It's a minor source of frustration to me that you can't just paste a Hypertext link into the comments form here but, should you ever want to include a link, all you need to do is use the BBCode format, as mentioned below the comment form.

Here is a link to the relevant part of the document that explains how.

Disclaimer

For the avoidance of any doubt, all views expressed here are my own and not those of past or current employers, clients, friends, Oracle Corporation, my Mum or, indeed, Flatcat. If you want to sue someone, I suggest you pick on Tigger, but I hope you have a good lawyer. Frankly, I doubt any of the former agree with my views or would want to be associated with them in any way.
