Last autumn, I would receive regular updates from Koert on his hunt for one of the few remaining Wii consoles in Belgium and his early days of joy once he found one. That stuck in my mind, I tried to buy one for someone as a Christmas present but they were still in very short supply.
As part of my penance for the ugly MSDBF episode, I promised The Boys (and Polly) that they could have one and it turned up last Saturday. (Well, it turned up during the week but we were out, so The Boys woke me up at 8 am to go and pick it up from the depot.)
What fun!
I haven't had too many attempts yet myself because I've been (and this is a personal blog, so I can say it!) sick again this week, but watching others play it is entertaining enough
This is what games should be about. Fun, competition, laughter (lots of it) and a little exercise. I suppose you could have as much fun playing tennis or kicking a football around but the general principle is the same. The main thought that stuck in my mind is this. Unlike a PS/3 or PC or XBox or whatever, it would be very difficult to get insanely addicted to the thing because you get tired. Yes, that's right. You get to spend an hour or so behaving like a 7 year old, laughing your backside off and then you collapse in a heap at the end.
Oh, and the graphics might be much more advanced, but it has that ZX Spectrum feel to it.
All in all, it's a beatifully designed and executed piece of kit.
I owe you a beer, Koert!
